Histon Hornets annual 5-aside tournament will be held across three sessions on the weekend of 4th and 5th July. Please complete our form to enter your team(s). Multiple entries may be added to your basket before checking out.

Hornets Inclusive All-Stars

Histon Hornets F.C are pleased to announce their new junior inclusion football sessions. Following the success of our open age inclusive team joining us last season we are now launching two U16 sessions.

7-11 year old sessions will be focusing on confidence, skills and building friendships in a non-competitive environment.

12-16 year old sessions will be focusing on all the above with the aim to create a team who can play against other similar teams in friendlies and hopefully a league.

We can also provide an internal pathway and opportunity for players to develop through their age banding and into our open age (16+ existing team). For players with a physical disability of any age, we can sign post to specific impairment opportunities and access to the regional U16 England para talent ID hub.

What is inclusion football ? Inclusion football is aimed at helping anyone who needs extra support to play the game. This could be due to a physical, neurological, SEN or wellbeing need. We believe football should be for all and work hard to break down any barriers players may face.

When ? Our sessions will run every Wednesday 6-7 pm.

Where ? Impington Village college, New road, Impington, Cambridge, CB24 9LX

Cost ? £3 per session Our team of experienced FA coaches have a great in-depth of knowledge in inclusion and impairment specific football, with our head of inclusion Zoe Harvey leading the sessions.

Hornets Offer level 2 Training to Managers and Coaches

First Aid Training to Managers and Coaches

On Wednesday 15th November, Histon Hornets hosted Martin from First Aid Training Services ( www.first-aidtrainingservices.co.uk ) for three hours of first aid training for their Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support & Defibrillator training. This allowed a group of our managers and coaches to extend their practical first aid knowledge beyond the mandatory FA Introduction to First Aid that all our coaches undertake.

During the session, the Hornets had the opportunity to practice practical skills such as CPR, using an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator, stabilising neck/spine injuries, handling choking and anaphylaxis, recognising and responding to concussion and compression injuries to the head, plus a range of other incidents that we all hope never to need to handle.

The coaches who attended were all impressed with the session, and felt it added to their skills not just as football coaches, but for the rest of their life outside football too.

"I initially thought 3 hours would drag, but it didn't at all. Lots of really useful info and practical feedback from Martin. I'd strongly recommend to others."

"I thought it was great and would recommend it to any coach. He covered a lot of very useful material, in an engaging way. It didn't drag at all. If anything, an extra half and hour could have been helpful."

"There's no substitute for doing some of the exercises in person, because they're about practice and muscle memory (recovery, CPR, defib)"

"Three hours well spent".

As a club we make the safety and wellbeing of our players and volunteers a priority, and are pleased to be able to offer this additional training to our coaches. We're hoping to put another group of coaches through this training course next season.

Inclusive Football comes to the Hornets

Hornets Welcome Inclusive football.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Zoe Harvey and her football team to Histon Hornets.

This 16 strong squad are joining us from Cambridge United Foundation and we’re formally known as Cambridge United PAN.

The team formed just over a year ago and quickly developed a strong bond with players aged between 17-56 who all qualify to play inclusion football due to either a physical or neurological disorder.

All of the players included in this team are either Visually impaired, hearing impaired, have cerebral palsy, a mental health condition or learning disability. To read more about the team or contact Zoe please click here .

The player registration form for 2023_2024 season are now available in pdf or word versions. Please will you ask your players/parents to complete all sections and to sign the form. No player can be registered without a signed form.

The form should be returned to the appropriate manager along with the teams subscription for next season, a gain no player will be registered without the registration fee.

Hornets Presentation Day 17th June @ IVC

The Histon Hornets presentation day this season (2022_2023) will take place in the main hall at Impington Village College on the 17th June 2023. With over 500 presentations to make to 450 players its going to be a fantastic day but in order to fit everyone in on a single day we have had to again split the teams into 5 groups each group lasting approx. 1.5 hours and mixed with other Hornet age groups.

Each squad will have a start and finish time for their 90 minute slot with teams given approx 15 minutes for their presentation (This is based on last years times which ran quicker than expected). Unlike last year where teams were asked to sit in the hall for a longer period and also have a photo taken this year it's just the presentations so players are asked to sit at the front of the main hall with parents / siblings towards the back / around the side, any parent team photos should wait until the presentation for that group has been completed and if possible taken outside the hall to allow for the next group to setup. Trophies will be on the main stage area and presented by each team manager / coach who will have approx. 15 minutes.

We are waiting for confirmation from our refreshments options which should be similar to last season.

Please make sure your squad is here 10 minutes before your allocated slot time and ready to go into the hall (and exit) in a timely manner.

Ipswich Town Football Club Foundation partner with Histon Hornets Football Club

The Ipswich Town Football Club Foundation are delighted to announce a partnership with Histon Hornets Football Club.

The partnership will bring immediate benefits for both parties through their commitments to support one another as set out below.

Players of Histon Hornets will receive discounts to Foundation activities and sessions as well as coaches of the Club receiving CPD sessions throughout the year whilst Ipswich Town Foundation branding will appear on site at the Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

Michael Torrode, Football Development Officer for West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire for the Foundation said: “Ipswich Town foundation are delighted to partner up with Histon Hornets, they are one of the largest clubs in Cambridgeshire.

Standing up for the Stutes

On Saturday 20 ^th November 2021, the combined forces of the Histon Hornets Under-10 White and Under-10 Blue teams had the privilege of being mascots at Histon FC’s home fixture against Halesowen Town.

With 23 boys in tow, we were ushered through the side gate and on to the pitch, while the accompanying parents filed through the main turnstiles and into the stands. Histon FC had kindly set aside one stand just for the Hornets – though whether this was to protect the gentle ears of the young Hornets from the riper language in the other stands, or to protect the regular fans from the clamour of the Hornets is up for debate!

Before kick-off the Hornets had the chance to show off their tackling, shooting and passing skills on the pitch before lining up to form a guard of honour to welcome the players onto the pitch. A photo opportunity in the centre circle, and then it was into the stands to raise the roof in support of the home side. Ably led by one of the team’s assistant coaches, the boys were soon chanting and cheering as the match got under way.

With the scoreline still 0-0 at half time, the Hornets were back out on the pitch for some mini-matches of their own, with high-speed, rotating 5-aside games.

Despite vociferous and excited support from the Hornets players and parents, Histon FC were unable to secure a win, conceding the only goal of the match in the 61 ^st minute, but they certainly won themselves some new fans, and hopefully the Stutes appreciated the additional support.

A great day out for all the boys, and one I’m sure they’d love to repeat.

Hornets Tournament a great success

Our summer football tournament was held on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of July and unlike recent seasons held over 2 days with girls on the Saturday afternoon and boys on the Sunday. Our aim of the tournament was to allow mini league teams to enjoy a relaxed few hours of 5 a side football after what we can all agree has been a very restricted 18 months. With almost 100 teams competing and spread out over multiple pitches the event was a great success as seen in the comments below:

"Dear Histon Hornets, I just wanted to write a quick note to thank you all for a fantastic tournament at the weekend. I can only imagine the work that went into it to make it happen, but it was absolutely worth it. All the teams seem to enjoy it and the organisation was excellent.

Personally my favourite part of the whole event was the attached image, a home made poster from a young Hornet sibling which sums up our clubs ethos and the atmosphere we look to create at our grassroots club.

Taster Training for the U6's - starts in October

Histon Hornet Coaches and newly appointed U6 coach Patrick Goss will be running the first development coaching sessions for the newly created U6 squad in October. The sessions are open to all players who want to start playing football in a safe and friendly environment.

Demand for places has been high this season so places have been booked up fast, if you wish to register interest in the U6 training then please complete the form below, players must have appropriate footwear, clothing and shin pads as well as their own drink.

Booking in advance is essential and players must complete a registration form here and bring it to the session,

Coaches will provide access to the Hornets Track and Trace QR code as well holding a COVID registration form for spectators so please make sure you see one of the coaches upon arrival.

The U15 White team have been busy in pre-season and sent the below clips in to Footij's twitter page where Mark Thomas and Harry Bennett were voted goal of the week and skill of the week. Manager Wayne Bates said "The individual skill by Harry is something we see week in, he is a fantastic player and deserved of the award" "Mark Thomas is a great striker of the ball and we know he will be scoring like this for the team during the season"

U8 Presentations

On Tuesday 16th June, in a brief gap in the thundery showers, the Histon Hornets U8 Whites football team held an outdoor, socially-distant, end-of-season trophy presentation. The circumstances were definitely very different to our usual annual celebration, with sterile gloves, Dettol and hand-sanitiser featuring prominently. The team did their parents and coaches proud, by remaining in their six-person groups, sticking to the 2m distance, and standing patiently on their allocated spots while trophies were placed a further 2m from them to be picked up later.

All the players received medals and certificates to mark the end of the season, and additional trophies were awarded for Players' Player (number 18), Supporters' Player (number 19), Managers' Player (number 20) and Golden Boot (number 16), but every single player deserved recognition and reward. We were delighted by how evenly the voting in each category was split - a true reflection on the fact that every member of the team made a massive contribution to our season, and that it was teamwork as much as individual effort that made us so strong. We had a brilliant under-8 season, our last at 5-aside, with every member of the team working hard and improving, and every player enjoying their football. We were all sad to have missed the final couple of matches of the season, not to mention the tournaments we'd signed up for, but we're carefully planning our return to training and looking forward to a chance to play football again as we move up to under-9 .

Magical Mascot Memories

On the 1st Feb our under 6 team were invited to be mascots at Histon FC. The club were amazing to us, and boys repaid by cheering loudly throughout!

It all started as the club took the boys out into the middle of pitch before kick-off and all the boys had the chance to shake Lance’s (1st team manager) hand.

They were then taken into the changing room - thankfully the tactics board survived! A shot walk upstairs took them into the Board room where they were all given some chocolate - from that moment in they were sold!

Before kick off all the team paired up with a member of the team and walked out onto pitch. The crowd had swelled, with us bringing 50+ extra spectators, and the cheers were very loud as the teams walked out.

At half time the club even allowed the boys to have a penalty shoot out. What an absolute treat for all the boys and all them managed to score before the teams came back out.

To top it all off Histon played really well and were unlucky only to draw with the runaway league leaders.

Girton Golf Club taster session

Taster Session at Girton Golf Club

Girton Golf Club and Histon Hornets are working in partnership to try and get more young people playing golf. Club Green-keeper Matt Pratt and U13 Manager Andy Wilbraham are organising a free taster session for any Hornet players that would like to pick up a golf club for the first or hundredth time. A similar event was run a few seasons ago and had a great take up with clubs pro team creating games and activities for the Hornets to play. Please keep an eye out for the date(s) or let you manager know of any interest.

Hornets Colts make Finals

U13's and U14's Reach League CUP Finals

It’s been a great start to 2020 for the Hornets family with the U13’s White and U14’s White both reaching their League CUP Final. The U13 White team have beaten Ely City, Exning and Waterbeach to set up a final against either Swavesey Spartans or Cambourne FC, whilst the U14's will play Chesterton Eagles on the 21st March at 13:00 in their final after beating Littleport Town, St Ives Rangers, Exning and Ely City.

It’s the second final for the U14’s (above) in 2 seasons having won the CUP in the 2018_2019 final, manager Wayne Bates said “It is a fantastic achievement for the squad to get through to another final and shows what a talented team we have”.

The dates for both finals are yet to be decided but are likely to be towards the end of March at the Cambridge Stadium – Good luck to both teams.

Hornets donate to EACH at Christmas

Young Histon Hornet players and families enjoyed pizza and a disco at the end of year 2019 Christmas party on the 13th December. Santa joined them and gave out chocolate to the U6 - U11 teams before leaving several boxes with Histon Hornet Chairman Steve Carrington who can be seen above donating them to the local East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice in Milton.

Coaches raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

On September 14th 2019 30 Managers / Coaches played in a charity match for an ex Hornet who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer at the age of just 29.

We are pleased to say that the day raised £500 which was donated to G1 Macmillan Unit at West Suffolk Hospital.
